In the existing structures, an installer has to remove the exterior siding strips, around the height of the waist, drill three holes in a row, one into every stud bay - through the wall sheathing. After that, they insert special filler tubes above the wall cavity and blow the insulation into cavities - generally 3.5-pound density. After the installation is over, they use a plug to seal the holes, replace, and touch up the siding to match the wall.  
 
In the new construction, installers can damp-spray the cellulose or install it behind the netting in dry form. If damp-sprayed, the installers will need to add a small amount of moisture at the nozzle tip to activate the natural starches. That alone allows the starches to adhere inside the cavities. The damp-sprayed foam will be ready after 24 hours.

Polyurethane Insulation

​Polyurethane insulation materials are foam insulation materials that contain low-conductivity gas in their cells. The insulation materials come in the form of open-cell and closed-cell formulas. The closed-cell foam will close the high-density cells and fill them with a gas that will help the foam to expand and fill all the spaces surrounding it. The open-cell foam cells are air-filled, which means that they are not dense and they have a spongy texture in addition to the low R-value.
